My hosue music piece is 18:28 minutes long. It was quite hard to extend it that much and at the end i just got lazy and copied a whole song and just extended it instead of using layers and putting other beats etc on top. I have three different movements, and one movement that i have at the beginning and i repeat it at the end. I dont have a beat that connects everything, because i found it too difficult to find something that would work with the 90s remix of "alors on danse" by stromae, and that was my main movement and i didnt want to drop it. My house music piece is not a "whole" piece, it does not have a beat that connects the whole thing.

CREATE
April 23rd
I created my timeline today and started with the planning. Also, i picked the song that I want to build my piece of House Music around: the official 90's remix of "Alors on Danse" by Stromae.

April 27th
I finished my bibliography today and did some research on house music in general. But somehow i ended up listening to dubstep remixes of all kinds of songs, and i think i will use dubstep in my house piece as well. Today, i decided that my house piece should be more calm for hanging out, not for dancing, firstly because that is easier and then, because no one can actually dance to dubstep.
April 30th
Today, i will research some more on dubstep and find some songs that i like. Also, i will complete my bibliography with the songs that i will find.
May 2nd
Today i will finish my planning and update it.
I finished my planning by adding some more steps to it and going back to my research to see what i will have to do. I set the timeline for myself so that i can actually finish the project on time. Also, i started choosing the songs that id want to use and i selected some of the better ones.
May 10th
Today, i will work on the actual piece a bit more and try make the 90s remix of alors on danse by stromae blend with some other piece that i found and that i thought would work really well. It is a dubstep bassline, mixed with some other stuff and vocals, too.
I really liked the way it turned out, because i think it blends really well. and also because the bassline is separated in very clear parts, it is easy to extend it and repeat bits and pieces over and over again. Also, because it is a dubstep bassline, it is my connection between alors on danse and dubstep, because i really want to work dubstep in the music piece.
May 15th
Today, i will extend the dubstep bassline a bit, so that my whole piece is 10 miutes long, then i can work from there.
Actually, i got to 7 minutes and 27 seconds, but that is fine, too. I really like the bassline, but i think if id extend it some more, people would get sick of it because its too repetitive.
may 18th
Today, i want to fisnish the "numb dubstep remix" part of my piece.
i was working on that seperately while completing the other part of my piece, so that i can put it together in the end when its all finished. I think its just more organized to do it that way and i dont get the other two songs mixed up.
June 1st
Today i want to finish my whole piece.
I put the num remix together with alors on danse and the dubstep bassline and it worked quite well (i knew itd work, because i tried it before i started expanding the numb remix, to save the trouble of making it blend then if it wouldnt work with the dubstep bassline.). Also, after the numb remix i decided to repeat the whole "alors on danse" part again, to round the piece up etc. At the very end, i wrapped up all the songs in about 20 seconds each in the right order.

PLAN
CRITERIA: The student produces a plan that contains a number of detailed, logical steps that describe the use of resources and time. The student critically evaluates the plan and justifies any modifications to the design.
TIMELINE
1. Bibliography due on April 27th
(including sources for music+music clips etc.)
2. Planning complete on April 30th
3. Research/investigation complete on May 2nd
I have to find various songs that I'd like to use bits and pieces of in my house music piece, and i should have most of them before i actually start creating my piece of house music.
8. Evaluation complete on June 8th
This plan was not really useful for actually creating the house music piece, because i changed some of the steps. Also, i was busy a lot of the time and therefore had huge gaps in between the sessions where i actually worked on my piece, so i didnt meet all of my deadlines. For example, i never had to alter vocals, because i used songs that had alreadty altered vocals in them, to save time. Also, i didnt have to learn how to blend the songs, because the songs i chose happened to blend perfectly, so i didnt have to do anything.

4. Combination of Basslines for the piece complete on May 5th
House music uses syncopated beats to carry various other elements throughout the song. The beat is the core. Drums provide a break in the syncopated rhythm of the break beats. Drums can sometimes be the bridge to other sections of the song.Read more: How to Make House Music | eHow.com http://www.ehow.com/how_4506822_make-house-music.html#ixzz1thFbUhdI
5. Adding/altering vocals and bits and pieces from other songs in due on May 18th
House music is a function of computer technology. Using a vox sound to alter a vocal, or any affect to make it sound futuristic, is a key element to a house song. Often the altered vocal is juxtaposed with the traditional vocal to add a creative flair to the sound.
6. Learn how to mix music and make it blend due on May 23rd
DJs are the gatekeepers to the house sound. Mixing music is crucial to creating popular house mix tapes. Some DJs prefer to use traditional turntables to mix vinyl albums, while others may use music mixing software on a computer. Regardless of how songs are mixed, learning how to mesh one sound into another is paramount.
7. Session complete on June 1st

INVESTIGATE
CRITERIA: The student explains the problem, discussing its relevance. The student critically investigates the problem, evaluating information from a broad range of appropriate, acknowledged sources. The student describes detailed methods for appropriate testing to evaluate the product/solution against the design specification.
This unit is about creating a piece of House Music (15 to 30 minutes long). The link to the technology course is that we are using Audacity, Garageband, or an equivalent Audio program to create that piece of house music. I personally really like the topic, because I like listening to House Music and i think its very interesting to learn how to actually create a piece of music myself.

PLAN
It is good to have a timeline for my documentary, because whenever i set deadlines for myself, i try at least to meet them and finish my stuff on time. I still have some problems with time management etc, and the fact that i wont just be sitting in my room, working on it, but also going out to Phoenix and taking footage there, means that i have to plan my weekends in advance. I have to put some buffer time in as well, because it might happen that i dont have the driver for a weekend and therefore no possability to get to Phoenix or that im simply busy with other work.
CREATE
One big change in my plan happened when Mr. Holmes told us that the documentary only has to be 5 minutes long, instead of 15. That was February, the 25th, after i had started my filming. I already had some footage of me trying on shoes etc, and the cutback of the required time that my documentary has to be did not change that much, except that i totally forgot about my first second-by-second plan.
Instead, i just took the footage and put it all together in a way that i liked and that made sense to me.

INVESTIGATION
This unit was about creating a documentary to inform, persuade or entertain people and at the end, evaluating it by asking other people questions about it.
This was my first brainstorming, and i tried to connect all the different conventions, styles, genres of documentary film making with my topic. I was pretty sure that my documentary should be interactive, because i wanted to take some footage myself, and actually BE in the documentary. Then, i chose my topic: Shoes, because it is something i really like and i have some kind of personal connection to. The final product was supposed to be entertaining people, but not neccessarily informing or persuading.

Laura and I worked on her MacBook in class and started putting together all the clips that i had filmed. Therefore, we had to continue on her Mac until we were pretty much done, because i don't have a Mac and we worked on iMovie. We plan on meeting on the weekend (10th of March) and do the rest of the filming and then put together all the clips on her Mac.
What we actually did was that we started working parallell on two computers. She was working with iMovie whereas i did the missing research and downloaded Clips from Cinderella.
Once the video was exported, i put it on my harddrive and worked some more at home. I finished it and put background music etc. Basically i did the final touch-up.

Laura got involved in my documentary when i was in the process of actually creating it. She did some internet research and found clips on youtube that i used in my documentary, such as the interview with Christian Louboutin. I went to Phoenix Mall again with her, to finish my filming on March 10th. We interviewed some people, and asked them how many shops they think there are in phoenix mall to use the answer as a response to "How many pairs of shoes do you have?". So we basically manipulated people into saying what we wanted them to say: big numbers.
Also, she did some internet research on shoes, because we needed some interviews with experts, because we were not allowed to film in the shops, which is what i actually planned to do.
we watched these videos on youtube and chose 2 of them:

I planned on going to Phoenix Market City to interview some experts in the shops like
Steve Madden and use these interviews for my documentary. also, i wanted to take some good videos of me shopping for shoes. I asked my Dad and he agreed to let me use his Canon camera, because it can take HD videos and my documentary should be visually attractive etc.
Friday, the 17th of February i went to Phoenix Market City together with Rose and started the filming. I basically filmed myself, trying on different types of shoes and i even interviewed a couple of people.
Unfortunately, Phoenix doesn't allow cameras inside the mall, but i convinced the security guards that we weren't going to film and he let us in. First, i tried asking for permission in the steve madden shop and in the aldo shop, but they wouldnt let us film, so i just didnt ask any more and casually put the camera on the ground or rose just tried not to attract too much attention while filming. They didnt really care (as long as we didnt ask for permission), so i got some really nice videos. In the end, i bought a pair of Vans (and made my mum pay for it), so im quite happy with my chosen topic. ;)
Of course, i cant interview experts any more, because they actually dont allow filming in the shops, which means interviews are not allowed either.

DESIGN
Opening:
(1 minute) - Video montage of the shoes I own, and then “Jacky needs new shoes”
(2 minutes) - Shopping for shoes, finally buying shoes
Body:
(90 seconds) - brief history of shoes, focus: women’s shoes and high heels
(6 minutes) - interviews with different people in the street, talking heads
Questions:
- How many pairs of shoes do you own?
- Why do you think women love shoes?
- Why do you think women love shoes?
à support answers with examples or personal reaction
Conclusion:
(15 Seconds) - quick review of good interview answers, why women love shoes
(15 seconds) - give my personal reason why I love shoes (customizing them)
The intention of this design is to entertain people, but i tried to also include some informational parts. I think it'd be funny to have some men-in-the-street-interviews about how many pairs of shoes they own, because this actually interests me. The shopping-for-shoes part is the fun part about making my documentary, and why i really do want to make it. Also, it supports the slice-of-life genre, and is more visual than actually informing.
PLAN
- what kind of documentary will it be?
- Interactive
- What genre will it be?
- Slice of Life
- What are the elements and who are the people you will need?
- I will interview people on the street and ask them questions like "how many pairs of shoes do you have?". Also, I'd actually like to include experts, for example people who work in shops that sell shoes etc. (in case that doesnt work, i still have Clotilde).
- 'Man in the street' is one of the most important elements of my documentary, as well as filming myself shopping for shoes, filming myself how i draw on shoes and customize them, a brief history of shoes and as i go i will collect reasons "why women love shoes", which is going to be the central theme of my documentary and the connection between all these elements.
- What is your shooting schedule?
- I will shoot during the weekends, and i cant schedule it yet because i might not have a driver to get wherever i need to go etc. I could use friday, the 17.02 because its a day off, to go to Phoenix Marketcity and start filming myself shopping for shoes.
- What is your editing schedule?
- I think i will edit the videos i shoot as i go, and not leave it all for the end, because im trying to improve my time management skills and if i leave it for the end, ill be stressed out and maybe not able to finish it on time.
First, i will put together the different sections (elements) and then put these together to get the final documentary.

INVESTIGATE Documentary Annotated Bibliography
1. Byrnes, K. (n.d.). The History of Shoes. Head Over Heels. Retrieved March 2, 2012, from http://www.headoverheelshistory.com/
This site is about the history of shoes from the antiquity to the 1980s. It shows how shoe style changed and developed since antiquity and even includes explanations and some historical background. The website was written by Kristine Byrnes, a graphic designer and shoe enthusiast. It is pretty reliable, because she listed the books she worked through to get the information from. I can use this timeline and pick the most important pieces of information to create my small history-of-shoes-introduction at the beginning of the documentary. It is very useful, because it is complete and detailed.

I really want to go there and make it a part of my documentary because they sell shoes that I personally find ugly but I want to include more types of shoes in my documentary, not just the ones I like.

I will ask the saleswomen there why she thinks that anyone would spend that much money on ugly shoes.

This website shows the opposite opinion: Shoes are unnecessary and “stupid”. The article is especially related to shoe fashion in India . It was written by a guy with the nickname “the BIG K”. Obviously it is not very neutral because it expresses a personal opinion of a guy who is very biased, but I think shoes are a very personal issue and everyone is allowed to have a different shoe style to express personality. I think I will use some quotes read out loud in my documentary, but in a way and at the right time so that they just sound stupid.

This website really helped me, because it points out all of the conventions of documentary film making that might be important to our documentary. This website will help me with my design as it saves a lot of time because I don’t have to research on conventions and then put the results together, because somebody already did that for me.

Documentary, List of other possible topics/genres/styles
1. How to make a Documentary
Id follow some of my classmates and film how they make their documentary, interview them and introduce some basic concepts of documentary film making, such as conventions, styles, genres etc.
But this topic is kind of boring because everybody in my class already knows about how to make a documentary as they are learning it right now so id have to chose a different audience. Also, with this topic id be very dependant on other people as id have to follow them around etc.
2. Graffiti
Id take viedos of myself as i learn how to do graffiti and also include a brief history and explanations of different styles etc.
But ive never tried doing graffiti before and actually i dont know anybody who could teach me. This is also a little bit too risky, because if im not good at spraypainting, my whole documentary would fail.
3. Chocolate
Id show how to make chocolate yourself, how it is used as aphrodisiac and how it makes people happy and of course id include a brief history of where it comes from and how it was discovered etc.
I didnt chose this topic, because i think it is too much research-based, and i really do want to take footage myself and make an interactive documentary.
4. SHOES

4. SHOES
Id show myself, trying on shoes and shopping for shoes. Id include a brief history of shoes with a focus on women's high heels. Also, id include some experts that i interviewed etc.
I like this idea best, because it connects all the different conventions, styles, genres of documentary film making that i want to use with the topic, shoes. The documentary is interactive, because i wanted to take some footage myself, and actually BE in the documentary and the topic is shoes, because it is something i really like and i have some kind of personal connection to.
This unit was about creating a documentary to inform, persuade or entertain people and this documentary would be entertaining, but not nevvessarily informing of persuading.

PLAN DOCUMENTARY TIMELINE
CRITERION C PLAN
PLAN THE PRODUCT / SOLUTION:
Step One
Task: Bibliography
Date due: january 23rd
Process: Research relevant sources and documentary styles to help me decide what kind of documentary i'd want to do. Also, I'll reasearch the topic i've chosen to gaign some background knowledge.
Step Two
Task: Design Complete
Date due: january 27th
Process: The design has to be finished before i can start shooting. I will include a brainstorming, because that usually helps with connecting ideas and becoming clear.
Step Three
Task: Planning complete
Date due: january 31st
Process: Putting up a timeline and deadlines for myself will help me with finishing the documentary on time. Also, i should plan for the weekends in advance, because ill have to coordinate with my family, because i need the driver and my Dad's camera etc.
Step Four
Task: Filming complete
Date due: march 3rd
Process: I will have to collect as much material and video clips as possible, so that i can select them later on and cut out the good parts. I will include videos of me shopping for shoes, and probably experts talking. It is gonna be very slice-of-life-y and the focus is not going to be on the information.
Step Five
Task: Evaluations
Date due: march 23rd
Process: i will have to look back at my process and my product and reflect on its quality. To help me with that, i will reconsider the questions that i had for my game and then get different people to watch my documentary and then evaluate its quality.
Step Six:
Task: DONE
Date due: march 30th
Process: I need to fix all of the previous steps, and get my blog organized by March 30th, so that the grading can be done etc.
